Of course, they may not feel the urge to express their current gender with their hair and clothes – the gender-fluid experience is different for everyone. For others, it’s a lot more dynamic, and their gender. Some people identify as one gender their whole life. Being polygender can also mean that someone’s gender changes. Polygender people have all these genders in a mix at the same time. Polygender people may have two genders ( bigender), three genders (trigender), or more genders. They could also have some phases where they feel like they don’t identify with a single gender at all, and so choose to express that with a more non-binary look. Being gender-fluid means that the gender a person identifies as changes over time. According to the Oxford and Merriam-Webster dictionaries, identifying as genderfluid means your gender identity is not fixed its capable of changing over time. Polygender people experience several gender identities and some define being polygender as having more than one gender. Gender fluidity is becoming commonly known as transgenderism: the ability to transcend gender, whether biological, emotional, political, or otherwise truly mixing male and female. The modern terms and meanings of 'transgender', 'gender', 'gender identity', and 'gender role' only emerged in the 1950s and 1960s. The experience is different for everyone, but essentially at one point a gender-fluid person may feel more ‘masculine’ and so express that with short hair and a flannel shirt – but days, weeks, or years later they could feel more ‘feminine’ and so choose to express that with long hair and dresses. Bakla is a Tagalog word that denotes the Filipino practice of male cross-dressing, denoting a man that has feminine mannerisms, dresses as a sexy woman, or identifies as a woman. Gender-fluid means that their gender identity and/or expression encompass both masculine and feminine.
